Wish Upon A Shooting Star

A dreamer

I have always been a dreamer. Even when I was a little kid my thoughts were always full of how my life could be different. Or of how the world could become a better place.

Sometimes, after my mom had tucked me into bed with an instruction to stay no matter what. I’d sneak over to the large window in my bedroom and stare outside into space.

I will find an area of the sky that is with the most stars and I will wait. I will whisper a wish. Though some say wishes always had to be said outloud. And wait for a shooting star to fall and make my wish come true.

My wishes

Sometimes my wishes would be for myself and other times I would make wishes for my friends or my family. I didn’t like it that my knee got all scraped up when I fell down on the playground.

I didn’t like it that other kids got made fun of if they had to wear glasses. So I would make wishes about things like these. Would wait on a shooting star in hopes that my mom would stop crying so much. Or so that my baby sister wouldn’t be sick all the time.

I believed with all my heart that all it took for my dreams to come true was seeing a shooting star fall from the sky. I believed there was something magical about a shooting star, something in it that was the answer to peoples’ problems.

Now as an adult

Even now, as an adult, I find myself wondering if wishing on a shooting star doesn’t in some way help solve the problems of the world. It seems like too many of my childhood wishes got answered.

For there to not be at least a little magic in a shooting star. Of course now my wishes are for bigger things. Near to impossible like world peace or the eradication of all of the world’s poverty.

I dream about a world without violence and about a world where every child has a chance to live. And while most of the time these dreams never make it outside the walls of my own mind, every now and then, I’ll be outside on a clear night and find myself gazing up to the sky and wishing my dreams outloud, just above a whisper.

I’m not sure if I keep looking for a shooting star because I really believe in it’s magic. Or maybe I just reminisce a habit from my childhood. Either way, I guess it is good for me to believe in the power of a little dreaming and of wishing upon a shooting star.

But focusing more on assigning blame than on how to deal with the problems is just a bad habit. It’s like a child screaming “I don’t want it this way!” thinking that complaints will change reality.

It isn’t very productive. You may notice in friends who find many things and people to blame in their lives.

Breaking A Bad Habit

Blame the person who chooses to be cruel to you. But you are also to blame if you choose to be abused repeatedly by spending time with this person. It’s a bit like sticking your hand in a fire repeatedly, hoping it will one day stop being hot.

Almost, I say, because a person CAN change. However, how often do they? Be realistic here, or you are fighting reality as surely as when you put your hand into a fire.

A person can wait for his “ship to come in,” or can face the fact that people create most of the “luck” they have in life. Then they start working toward his goals.

I can work for political change or just complain and wish things were different. You can watch people succeed, while talking about the “reasons” for your failures. You can see what they are doing to succeed and try that.

Sometimes we don’t want to see the truth. To really want to see it we may need to look at the futility of fighting reality. Who is more likely to find happiness in this world?

A man who demands it should be the way he wants it. Or one who accepts things as they are, changes what he can, and does what he needs to do? Who will more likely succeed? A man who knows all about how things “should be?” Or one who sees only what is there and deals with it?

Do you need motivation to change? Start watch complainers and blamers and those who say “should” and “shouldn’t” too often. Watch closely, and you’ll see how they suffer for their demands on reality.

This is a bad habit upon which many other bad habits are based, but it can be broken.

When Everything Falls Apart

We often have the perception that self-growth will be simple, enjoyable, and rewarding. It certainly can be, but there is also another aspect of the self-growth journey that is rarely mentioned. And that is, when everything falls apart.

Deep-rooted beliefs

One of the major parts of self-growth is learning how to look inside yourself and get clear about certain things. Most often, this involves recognizing and dissolving inner blockages.

These are usually deep-rooted beliefs that we formed in childhood, or at least the early part of our lives. Sounds good, right?

It’s very good, actually, because these beliefs are usually what prevent us from living fully productive lives. These are the beliefs that keep us stuck in self-destructive patterns. They have a negative effect on all aspects of our lives. So dissolving them is an excellent idea.

The problem is that these deep-rooted beliefs are part of the foundation upon which our current lives are built. When we dissolve inner blockages, there are suddenly gaping holes in our foundation, which cannot support what is resting above them.

Inevitably, something will slip down into the hole, causing pain and turmoil and terror.

Real-life scenario

That’s what happened to me this week. My eyes were opened in a big way about a blockage I had been struggling with since early childhood. I finally felt totally clear on why it was there, and I understood exactly what I needed to do to dissolve it.

Suddenly became a lie

So, I set about doing just that — and then everything fell apart. That’s the understatement of the century. Everything I thought I knew about my life suddenly became a lie, and I was shaken to my very core.

I spent a couple of days feeling shell-shocked. Then another couple of days grieving. Then the light dawned. Finally, I understood what was happening, and I could see clearly how everything is interconnected.

It was no accident that everything fell apart just when I was finally making progress on my inner blockages. They fell apart BECAUSE I was making progress on my inner blockages.

Controlling feelings

However, in trying to control her feelings, others’ feelings and the outcome of things, Barbara may have been causing her illness. The underlying cause of her negative thinking was her devotion to this control.

The problem with all of this is that it is based on an illusion – the illusion of control. The fact is that Barbara could not foresee every event that could cause her some pain.

She was devastated every time something happened that she had not thought of beforehand. How could something painful come out of the blue like that? How could she have not foreseen it?

The paradox

The paradox of all of this is that, in trying to foresee future catastrophes, Barbara was not present in the moment. Real safety is in being present in the moment so we can respond appropriately to whatever is happening in the moment.

When we are fully present in the moment, we are available to receiving information from our inner Guidance. All of us have a Source of Guidance that is always available to us. Guidance that is always here to help and protect us. But we can access our Guidance only when we are fully present in the moment, not when we are trying to control the future.

Better days

Barbara is in the process of becoming more aware of her negative thinking. She is not yet healthy, but she has some better days now, days that are lighter and more fun.

Moving out of negative thinking is a process that takes time. If you are a negative thinker, you have been practicing this form of thinking your whole life. It is not going to stop in a day. But if you tune into the stress you feel and learn to connect your stress with your negative thinking, you can slowly change this pattern.

Vitality and joy can be the result of letting go of your negative thinking and learning to be present in the moment.

Money Will Not Take Away Your Fears And Anxieties

What money cannot buy

All the money in the world will not take away your fears and anxieties. You can be the most successful person in your business, however your money and success will do nothing in getting rid of your stresses and anxieties.

So what do you do to make your fears and anxieties to go away? Well, since money and fame are not the answers, then the best solution is to be smart in how you manage your fears.

Ways in how to manage your persistent fears and anxieties

Take it one day at a time. Instead of worrying about how you will get through the rest of the week or coming month, try to focus on today.

Each day can provide us with different opportunities to learn new things and that includes learning how to deal with your problems.

Focus on the present and stop trying to predict what may happen next week. Next week will take care of itself.

Learn how to manage your fearful thoughts that may be difficult to manage.

When experiencing a negative thought, read some positive statements and affirmations that help lift your spirits and make you feel better.

Remember that your fearful thoughts may be exaggerated so balance these thoughts with realistic thinking and common sense.

Take advantage of the help that is available around you. If possible, talk to a professional who can help you manage your fears and anxieties. They will be able to provide you with additional advice and insights on how to deal with your current problem.

Great help

It will be of great help in the long run, if a person is talking to a professional. He may be able to deal with their problems in the future. Managing your fears and anxieties takes practice. The more you practice, the better you will become.

When managing your fears and anxieties do not try to tackle everything at once. The best solution is to break your fears or problems into a series of smaller steps.

Completing these smaller tasks one at a time will make the stress more manageable and increases your chances of success.

Managing your fears and anxieties will take some hard work. Sooner or later, you will have to confront your fears and anxieties. Remember that all you can do is to do your best each day, hope for the best, and take things in stride.

Patience, persistence, education, and being committed in trying to solve your problem will go along way in fixing your problems.
