The reason why so many people fail to gain results from tried-and-tested techniques such as visualization, affirmations, hypnosis, subliminal programming etc., is because they are constantly living in the past. They allow hurts from the past to impinge upon the present. Every negative thought or feeling that you have is based in the past.

It is experiences that you had in your past that lead you to form that way of thinking and feeling. You must learn to release these hurts.

Life – A Quest (Part 1 of 2)

 

“Limited time. Continuous journey.” This is how one participant of my recent session defined life. The thought is profound; it is insightful and leaves an intense question. What is my legacy?

The legacy line is not new. Most people know leadership is all about having a vision and leading the path. But is that it? People are born and will die. Is it as simple as this?

The purpose of a human being is beyond just his/her vision in life. The vision we have and the process, through which we reach to it, is merely a KPI (Key Performance Indicator) to have lived. Legacy is a higher standard it shows that we actually did something with our lives.

Individuals working in organizations have job descriptions. Life in itself is an organization. There are many people involved and we are the CEO of our life. To be successful in this organization and leave a legacy behind, following four are critical.

Learn:

Life is all about learning. However, here it is not about technical skills or soft skills like communication, negotiation and team work. For life one needs to learn of oneself. ‘Who am I?’ is a useful question to begin with. Most people are disconnected in this area of self-awareness. Learning about oneself is like doing a ‘Training Needs Assessment’ of one’s own behaviors, attitudes, values, principles and mindsets.

Many people go through the learning process once and PERIOD! They fail to take it a step further. These are brilliant minds with rigid mindsets. They have learnt one thing but refuse to accept, learn or for that matter unlearn anything more than what they have already digested in themselves. Greatest learning comes from observing our behaviors in different situations. This is why people say we learn from experience. On the other hand one experience repeated over 20 years simply fixates that learning and handicaps development and growth.

Loving

 

Our life is all about love.

God is love, and the most important lesson He wants us to learn is how to love. It is in loving that we are most like Him. Love is the foundation of every command He has given to us. The whole law summed up with these: Love God above else, and Love others as you love yourself.

Yet, learning to love unselfishly is not an easy task. It runs counter to our self-centered nature. That is why we are given a lifetime to learn it. God wants us to love everyone, but He is more particularly concerned that we learn to love others in his family.

That is one of the purpose of our lives. The apostle Peter tells us “show special love for God’s people”. Paul echoes this sentiment: “when we have the opportunity to help anyone, we should do it, but we should give special attention to those who are in the family of believers.”

God do insist that we give special love and attention to other believers. God wanted believers to get priority in loving, because God wants his family to be known for its love more than anything else.

Jesus said our love for each other, not our doctrinal beliefs, is our greatest witness to the world. He said “your strong love for each other will prove to the world that you are my disciples.”

In heaven we will enjoy God’s family forever, but first we have some tough work to do here on earth to prepare ourselves for an eternity of loving. God trains us by giving us “family responsibilities,” and the foremost of these is to practice loving each other.

God wants us to be in regular, close fellowship with other believers so we can develop the skill of loving. Love cannot be learned in isolation. You have to be around people, those irritating, imperfect, frustrating people.

Toyota – More of a State-of-Mind than an Auto Maker

 

Toyota first caught the world’s attention in the 1980s, when it became clear that there was something special about Japanese quality and efficiency.

Japanese cars were lasting longer than American cars and required much less repair. By the 1990s it became apparent that there was something more special about Toyota compared to other automakers in Japan.

It was not eye-popping car designs or performance, though ride was smooth and the designs often very refined. Rather, it was the way Toyota engineered and manufactured the autos that led to unbelievable consistency in the process of the product.

Toyota designed autos faster, with more reliability, yet at competitive cost, even when paying the relatively high wages of Japanese workers.

Equally impressive was that every time Toyota showed an apparent weakness and seemed vulnerable to the competition, Toyota miraculously fixed the problem and came back even stronger.

Today Toyota is the third-largest auto maker in the world, behind Volkswagen and Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi Alliance. However, Toyota is more profitable than any other auto makers.

Much of Toyota’s success comes from its astounding quality reputation. Consumers know that they can count on their Toyota vehicle to work right the first time and keep on working, while most U.S and European auto companies produce vehicles that may work when new but almost certainly will spend time in the shop in a year or so.

What is the secret of Toyota’s success? The incredible consistency of Toyota’s performance is a direct result of operational excellence, its strategic weapon.

This operational excellence is based in part of tools and quality improvement methods made famous by Toyota in the manufacturing world, such as just-in-time, kaizen, one-piece flow, jidoka and heijunka. These techniques helped spawned the “lean manufacturing” revolution. But tools and techniques are no secret weapon for transforming the business. It is their continued success at implementing these tools stems from a deeper business philosophy based on its understanding of people and human innovation.

Its success is ultimately based on its ability to cultivate leadership, teams, and culture, and to devise strategy, to build supplier relationships and to maintain a learning organization.
