“I can do this. This is going to be easy. Sure it may take some time. Yeah I’ll need to learn some new skills, but I know I can do it.”

The interesting thing

The interesting thing about these two attitudes is that there is no difference in the potential outcome. In either case, when you are trying something new, you will either do it or you won’t do it. You will either succeed or fail.

When you approach something with an “I can’t” attitude more often than not, you match or meet your expectations by failing. You are predetermined, if you will, to fail, and so, you usually will. Occasionally, you surprise yourself when you succeed.

I know there have been many. More than I care to remember. A lot of times when I have turned away from an opportunity. Just because I was afraid I would fail, I was afraid of not doing it well.

Often, I was not even aware of that fear. It was hidden deep in my psyche, running the show from the background.

The I CAN attitude

I’d rather see us approach new things with the attitude of “I can.”

With that perspective, with a predisposition to success, we’ll find that most of the time we match our expectations by discovering that we can do it, we can succeed.

And when, on the rare occasion, we fail. But we’ll recognize the opportunity to learn. Then accept that we just were not meant to succeed at that particular task.

Can you think of opportunities that you have passed up because you were doubtful of your ability to succeed? Can you think of times when you have avoid doing something you really want? Just because you feel you will are not good at it?

Say you are only second placer in a writing contest. Will you jump for joy and push for better results the next time? Or will feel discourage and find an excuse not to join again?

Choices

In life, you are always facing with a lot of choices. You may opt to have a pessimist’s view and live a self-defeated life or you may decide to take the optimist’s route and take a challenging and fulfilling life.

So why nurture an optimist’s point of view? And why now?

The optimist

Well, optimism links to positive mood and good morale. To academic, athletic, military, occupational and political success and popularity; to good health and even to long life and freedom from trauma.

On the other hand, the rates of depression and pessimism have never been higher. It affects middle-aged adults the same way it hits younger people. The mean age of onset has gone from 30 to 15. It is no longer a middle-aged housewife’s disorder but also a teenager’s disorder’ as well.

Here’s how optimists are in action and researches that back up why it really pays to be an optimist:

Optimists expect the best

The defining characteristic of pessimists is that they tend to believe bad events, which will last a long time and undermine everything they do, are their own fault.

The truth is optimists are also confront with the same hard knocks of this world. What differs is the way they explain their misfortune—it’s the opposite way. They tend to believe defeat is just a temporary setback, that its causes are confine to this one case.

Optimists tend to focus on and plan for the ‘problem’ at hand. They use ‘positive reinterpretation.’ In other words, they most likely reinterpret a negative experience in a way that helps them learn and grow.

Such people are unfazed by bad situation, they perceive it is a challenge and try harder.

They won’t say “things will never get better,” “If I failed once, it will happen again” and “If I experience misfortune in one part of my life, then it will happen in my whole life.”

Positive expectancies of optimists also predict better reactions during transitions to new environments, sudden tragedies and unlikely turn of events. If they fall, they will stand up. They see opportunities instead of obstacles.

Questions To Empower You (Part 1 of 2)

For most people in our society, life will hold little more than a dutiful slog in the 9-5 rat race for forty years before retiring. Many will look back on their lives and wished they’d had an opportunity to have done something different.

Some may have even had opportunities to do so but didn’t take them. One thought is very common: “I wish I could’ve done something else but I never really knew what I wanted to do.”

Sounds familiar, yes?

Relax. Because I can help you identify what it is you’d really like to do. I can show you how to begin. It all starts by asking yourself three very important questions. These questions are the most important questions you can ask yourself. Here they are:

What, EXACTLY, do I want to do?

This question gets straight to the heart of the matter and it requires SPECIFIC answers. Also, your answer should be something you have a passion for. Should be genuinely interested in and not something you think others would be impressed with.

It should be something you feel so strongly about that missing out on it will make you seriously unhappy. By this, I mean IT WILL HURT YOU DEEPLY if you don’t at least give it a shot.

Take the time to think seriously about this question. Think at least 30 minutes a day as this is the first step towards getting what you want. Be thorough. Think about how you’d like to spend each day of your life. About what you don’t want to do. What you’d like to change about how you spend your days right now.

What do I have to do to get it?

This question requires answers about the practicalities required to achieve your goal. It will cover the necessary skills. What skills do you have now that you can use and what new skills will you need to develop?

You’ll need to know about courses or training programs you’ll need to take. You’ll need to identify how much practice or study you’ll have to do.

Money Will Not Take Away Your Fears And Anxieties

What money cannot buy

All the money in the world will not take away your fears and anxieties. You can be the most successful person in your business, however your money and success will do nothing in getting rid of your stresses and anxieties.

So what do you do to make your fears and anxieties to go away? Well, since money and fame are not the answers, then the best solution is to be smart in how you manage your fears.

Ways in how to manage your persistent fears and anxieties

Take it one day at a time. Instead of worrying about how you will get through the rest of the week or coming month, try to focus on today.

Each day can provide us with different opportunities to learn new things and that includes learning how to deal with your problems.

Focus on the present and stop trying to predict what may happen next week. Next week will take care of itself.

Learn how to manage your fearful thoughts that may be difficult to manage.

When experiencing a negative thought, read some positive statements and affirmations that help lift your spirits and make you feel better.

Remember that your fearful thoughts may be exaggerated so balance these thoughts with realistic thinking and common sense.

Take advantage of the help that is available around you. If possible, talk to a professional who can help you manage your fears and anxieties. They will be able to provide you with additional advice and insights on how to deal with your current problem.

Great help

It will be of great help in the long run, if a person is talking to a professional. He may be able to deal with their problems in the future. Managing your fears and anxieties takes practice. The more you practice, the better you will become.

When managing your fears and anxieties do not try to tackle everything at once. The best solution is to break your fears or problems into a series of smaller steps.

Completing these smaller tasks one at a time will make the stress more manageable and increases your chances of success.

Managing your fears and anxieties will take some hard work. Sooner or later, you will have to confront your fears and anxieties. Remember that all you can do is to do your best each day, hope for the best, and take things in stride.

Patience, persistence, education, and being committed in trying to solve your problem will go along way in fixing your problems.

The Power Of Acceptance

 

Inevitably in life we will have to face disappointment from time to time. Sometimes they may be little disappointments, and other times they may be great, big, heart wrenching disappointments. When this happens to us, we have a choice in how we react. Some of us may give up on our dreams, others may keep fighting stubbornly against the tide, and still others may choose another path to travel.

One important aspect of dealing with disappointment is acceptance. When we keep fighting against our circumstances and disappointments, it can leave us feeling frustrated, bitter and exhausted. Especially during those times in life when everything seems to keep going wrong for us, we get more and more stressed as we try to resist the undesirable circumstances.

Practicing acceptance can help ease that inner tension and allow us to see our situation more clearly. Accepting your circumstances does not mean giving up! It does not mean that you have to be 100% happy with your current situation. Acceptance means that you acknowledge and accept where you are in your life at this moment, even though it may not be ideal.

Maybe you hate your job or your marriage is faltering. Maybe you are struggling to lose weight and can’t seem to get anywhere with it. Whatever it is that is causing you stress, try accepting it instead of fighting against it. Repeat the following to yourself: “I may not be thrilled with the way things are in my life right now, but I accept it. I will do what I can and give the rest to God. I am thankful for the blessings I do have right now, and I know that more are on the way.”

It may take a lot of patience at the beginning, but as you continue to do this, something amazing happens. The struggles suddenly don’t seem so large anymore. They won’t magically dissolve before your eyes, but the edges seem to soften a bit. Life doesn’t seem quite so harsh anymore. Solutions to the problems may even begin to appear. If that doesn’t happen right away, that’s okay! Know that they will eventually. Just keep practicing acceptance and have faith that things will turn around.

I believe that everything happens for a reason. We are where we are in our lives right now because we are meant to be here. Several factors may have contributed to our current circumstances, such as choices we made in the past, or outside influences we have no control over. The questions to ask yourself are: What is the lesson here? What do I need to learn about this situation? Though you may not be happy with your current situation, there IS a reason you are there right now.

This is especially true if you continuously find yourself in similar situations! For example, if you keep choosing unhealthy relationships, you might want to take some time to discover why. If you are always struggling financially, there may be a message for you there. If you can’t seem to figure it out on your own, you might consider seeking professional help. Sometimes an outside party can see things that we can’t.

No matter what difficulties you are struggling with right now, know that this too shall pass. Difficulties do not last forever. Oftentimes, struggles are opportunities in disguise..
