Why Should You Set Goals? (Part 2 of 2)

You want to know why? Do not forget to read the previous article:

Why Should You Set Goals? (Part 1 of 2)

Continuation:

The right discipline is necessary

However, goal setting is not enough, as this should be accompanied by a positive outlook and self-discipline. A person may have a blueprint of where he wants to go. But if he does not have the necessary discipline to carry out the plan, then nothing will come out of it.

To be successful in goal setting, the goals that one has set for himself should be realistic. Goals needs to be based on his capabilities. Goals are selected and with important external factors.

Being too ambitious in setting up goals can make the goals unrealistic and difficult to achieve. However, do not also set goals that are too low because this might discourage one’s vision instead of achieving it.

Time frame

It is also necessary that the person setting the blueprint for his direction should also include a time frame. Timeline within which the goal will be achieved is very important. This way, he is able to determine if he has to fast track his strategies or slow down a bit.

Goal setting will also help a person check if he is performing within his plans. Or if he is doing things towards the achievement of his plans.

Rewards

Once you have achieved something, even a little of what you hoped to achieve. Then you should always give yourself a pat in the back to keep you motivated. But do not be too complacent with any little achievement, as this may cause you to backslide.

Setting goals can be used in any aspect of one’s life. From one’s personal or family life, to his career and finances.  Goal setting can be as simple as setting a target weight when you wish to lose pounds or something big, like earning your first million.

Final thoughts

When setting goals, it is always important to set standards that would suit your present situation, your capabilities, and other factors that may influence the achievement of your goal.

Fate – How It Changes Our Plans

Fate – How It Changes Our Plans

Life plans

All of us are working towards some goals. All of us have some plans for our life. We plan for our future, our children, our career and retirement. We are always planning and trying to implement our plans.

While doing all this, we forget to count fate, and that can give us a shock if we are not ready for it. When one makes plans, one should always leave the results to fate. Otherwise the shocks can be disastrous for our equanimity. Let us see how.

There are some who do not believe in fate

Some people don’t believe in fate. How do these people justify few occurrences? For example, why some kids get cancer at a very early age? Why, a person who takes care of his/her health in all the possible ways, is suddenly diagnosed with impossible sounding diseases?

One person survive in an accident while the other person traveling with him/her dies on the spot? Why some people instinctively leave some place, a night before a natural calamity? We hear of so many such miraculous survivals and cruel deaths, that the role of fate becomes impossible to deny.

A journalist who goes out only to fulfill his/her duty gets kidnapped in a foreign country and is killed mercilessly. Why? Few others make all the plans to go to the same place, but change their plans on the way!

The power of fate

Which power makes us act in ways that either help us survive in a disaster or pull us towards one? It is fate. Isn’t it?

What should we do if life is such? We surely cannot stop planning about our future? We surely cannot sit at one place and let fate play its own game. And after thinking about the games fate plays, one cannot plan and be absolutely certain that things will turn out precisely as planned.

What is the best way to live life?

Let us plan and apply all our might to bring the plans to fructification. Let us fight against all the obstacles and try to reach the goals. All of us do whatever we can to achieve what we desire.

Let us leave the results to God. To dream of results and be sure that they will be fulfilled as per our plans may give us a bigger shock, if that does not happen.

An Ideal Leader (Part 1 of 2)

The qualities

An ideal leader get things done and make things happen though odds are low.

Are you frustrated at work, when things don’t seem to be happening the way they’re supposed to be?

You see people milling around but no accomplishments. And in the daily hustle and bustle, do you feel that your goals remain as goals. Then maybe its time for you to stand up and do something about it.

Most people are content just to stand around listening for orders. And it isn’t unusual to adopt a follow-the-leader mentality. But maybe, somewhere inside of you, you feel the desire to make things happen – to be the head, not the tail. Then maybe leadership just suits you fine.

Leaders, made or born?

Some people believe that great leaders are made, not born. Yes, it may be true that some people are born with natural talents. However, without practice, without drive, without enthusiasm, and without experience, there can be no true development in leadership.

You must also remember that good leaders are continually working and studying to improve their natural skills. This takes a commitment to constantly improve in whatever endeavor a person chooses.

Definition of Leadership

First of all, let’s define leadership. To be a leader, one must be able to influence others to accomplish a goal, or an objective. He contributes to the organization and cohesion of a group.

Contrary to what most people believe, leadership is not about power. It is not about harassing people or driving them using fear. Rather it is about encouraging others towards the goal of the organization.

It is putting everyone on the same page and helping them see the big picture of the organization. You must be a leader not a boss.

You have to get people to follow you.

How is this accomplished?

People follow others when they see a clear sense of purpose. People will only follow you if they see that you know where you are going. Remember that bumper sticker? The one that says, don’t follow me, I’m lost too?

The same holds true for leadership. If you yourself do not know where you’re heading to, chances are people will not follow you at all.

You yourself must know the vision of the organization. Having a clear sense of hierarchy, knowing who the bosses are, who to talk to, the organization’s goals and objectives, and how the organization works is the only way to show others you know what you are doing.

Questions To Empower You (Part 1 of 2)

For most people in our society, life will hold little more than a dutiful slog in the 9-5 rat race for forty years before retiring. Many will look back on their lives and wished they’d had an opportunity to have done something different.

Some may have even had opportunities to do so but didn’t take them. One thought is very common: “I wish I could’ve done something else but I never really knew what I wanted to do.”

Sounds familiar, yes?

Relax. Because I can help you identify what it is you’d really like to do. I can show you how to begin. It all starts by asking yourself three very important questions. These questions are the most important questions you can ask yourself. Here they are:

What, EXACTLY, do I want to do?

This question gets straight to the heart of the matter and it requires SPECIFIC answers. Also, your answer should be something you have a passion for. Should be genuinely interested in and not something you think others would be impressed with.

It should be something you feel so strongly about that missing out on it will make you seriously unhappy. By this, I mean IT WILL HURT YOU DEEPLY if you don’t at least give it a shot.

Take the time to think seriously about this question. Think at least 30 minutes a day as this is the first step towards getting what you want. Be thorough. Think about how you’d like to spend each day of your life. About what you don’t want to do. What you’d like to change about how you spend your days right now.

What do I have to do to get it?

This question requires answers about the practicalities required to achieve your goal. It will cover the necessary skills. What skills do you have now that you can use and what new skills will you need to develop?

You’ll need to know about courses or training programs you’ll need to take. You’ll need to identify how much practice or study you’ll have to do.
