Emotions- Why Do We Have Them?

Why do we have emotions?

We are human beings

We as human beings have a body and a mind. With the body, we move around and do work. With the mind, we think, and experience emotions. Imagine of a human being with no emotions whatsoever.

Only a thinking machine who reacts to nothing emotional but makes scientific analysis. Imagine telling a joke to him/her. They will not laugh at it, but either ignore it or analyze the joke.

They make life difficult for those around them. After all what is a person without any emotions?

The perfect analogy

Why do we have emotions at all? Your computer on which you are sitting right now is a perfect machine to analyze, think and give results. It has no emotions. It is only an intelligent machine.

Why are human beings not like that? Would life be better if we had no emotions? We would lose all the charm of living if there was no trace of any emotion in any of us.

Let us take some situations

A death – people gather, complete the ceremonies and depart. No wet eyes, no remembering the dead soul, no sense of loss. The law of nature is simple.

One who is born has to die. So only intelligent understanding of that but no feeling of loss. Can you visualize the scene?

Love, what is love, if not an emotion?

So there will be no love. People will meet, produce children and get away from each other. No love, no romance. What about family? They may have a family for the children to grow up. Then the family will get separated.

Coming to achievements, discoveries and inventions. Why will a person without any emotions, feel good by achievements or get excited with discoveries? So nothing great.

Only minimum existence needs to be met

It is the time for us now in this discussion to imagine of everything we do in life. Practically all our actions are governed by emotions.

Imagine a person winning an Olympics gold medal and walking away without any expression! Think of more situations and you will realize the role of emotions in life.

We have emotions, because we are not low-level animals. Because even dogs and cats have emotions. We have emotions because they make us enjoy life. They make us perform great things and they make us human.

Rejections and Anger (Part 1 of 2)

Anger is usually a product of rejections

All of us experience rejections

Rejections are normal. We all hear a lot of NO on many occasions. Some persons have difficulty handling rejections and may react hastily to the other person involved.

If you walk in a bank and apply for a loan. Then you are rejected you might stomp out the door shouting obscene talk to the lenders. This is not an appropriate way to handle the situation.

Rejections trigger emotions

This in fact can get you in trouble. And it is obvious that rejections are triggers to your emotions that enforce your anger. Now that you see this is a trigger you will need to learn how to cope with your anger and emotions.

At work

We can start with the technique to work through your anger by reducing your stress. If you are a spontaneous person then you will need to learn how to cut back on stressors.

If you feel pressured in the morning before going to work, try picking out the clothes you will wear for that day the following evening. This will provide you an extra few minutes during the morning to prepare for work.

In school

If you are running like a mad person to meet classes, then you might want to set up a schedule for yourself that includes time management. This can help you learn to prepare ahead and stay on top of things without rushing.

Instead of roaming thoughts through your head about what you, need to do each day, try handling one task at a time.

More strategies

This works wonders once you practice and continue with your strategy. When you feel angry, try taking a few deep breaths before you speak. You may also want to practice exercising since this burns energy. And it often reduces your chances of exploding when your emotions is threaten.

If you cannot handle rejections, coach your mind to believe that the person is not centering you out. Repeat over in your mind that no is a positive in many cases.

Get enough sleep

Getting less than eight hours of sleep, night after night, may lower levels of the serotonin. Low levels of this brain chemical can make you more prone to depression.

To sleep well, health practitioners recommend going to bed and waking up at the same time every day, including weekends. Relax before bedtime, perhaps with a hot bath. And for the soundest sleep, keep your bedroom quiet and dark.

Consider some alternate explanations

Your emotions, positive or negative, are created not by situations themselves, but by the way you interpret those situations.  A very common situation can turn into a reason for hand wringing unless you take mental steps to prevent it.

Suppose a friend is going to pick you up and can go somewhere and do something fun together. Now, suppose that time passes, and your friend does not arrive to get you.

Your feelings change, quite literally, from moment to moment. If at first you think of your friend as being insensitive and irresponsible, you will find yourself feeling angry at him.

You think that perhaps something bad has happened to him, you will naturally become concerned. When you think that this person does not care much about you and that is why he is late, you feel rejected, lonely, even depressed.

Although the situation does not change, and that your friend is still delayed, you can have a whole range of feelings depending on how you interpret that event.

For this reason, experts contend that situations are usually ambiguous, open to any interpretation. Hence, your interpretation helps create your feelings about the situation.

Positive interpretations lead to good feelings and enjoyment; negative interpretations lead to bad feelings and depression. To stay on the positive side, try to look for the positive interpretations.

Final thoughts

Indeed, depressions can be very destructive if neglected. Hence, the best way to stop the development of depression is to always put a bright light on the blues. And create a positive outlook in life.

Dream Interpretations (Part 1 of 2)

Dreams

Only a very small percentage of us understands the meaning of dreams. Dreams hold much importance and opportunity for our self-growth, improvement and self-discovery. This article is a guide to dream interpretation.

Most of us dream

But only a very small percentage of us understands. As i said, dreams hold much importance and opportunity for our self-growth, improvement and self-discovery.

Many mystics of both Eastern and Western origins are aware of the fact that dreams hold a wealth of untapped knowledge. Because of its inherently vague nature, dreams and the art of interpreting them never entered mainstream sciences.

Jungian psychology is the closest mainstream science that took dreams seriously.

Interpretations

This article is a concise description of the method of dream interpretation that I use. There are several points and guidelines to take note.

Symbolic Representations

The dreams are often symbolic representations of what we are experiencing or are about to experience in the near future. I find that my dreams often convey messages of occurrences that will most likely happen within a month or so.

Different Characteristics of Ourselves

Usually the people that we encounter in the dream symbolize the different aspects/characteristics of ourselves. For example, a woman may represent a feminine aspect of oneself even when one is male in the waking hours.

Much of our repressed tendencies also tend to manifest themselves as characters in dreams as well. Have you ever wondered why we sometimes appear and behave so differently in our dreams?

My take is that dreaming offers an outlet for us to be ‘somebody else’ that we never had the opportunity if we are awake.

Emotions Says a Lot

Often how we feel and the emotion we felt during the dream reveals and conveys much about the meaning of the symbols. Intuition and the willingness to examine ourselves with brutal honesty are two very important factors for successful analysis.

Common Symbols

Below is a list of commonly encountered symbols. In my opinion, we should always take into consideration the fact that symbols hold certain semantics. Meanings that are specific to individuals. Thus the interpretations of symbols are not generic. Therefore there can be no hard and fast rules with regards to dream analysis.

If you are, then do not worry because I am about to show you how to overcome this little problem.

Ways to use mind power to succeed

It seems to most of us that our thoughts are random, sometimes erratic and beyond our control

Our emotions truly do run us most of the time. When we have an emotional response to a thing we tend to go into automatic thinking. This happens because the subconscious programs in our mind take over.

All too often these programs are just rehashed memories. They create negative emotions and negative thoughts.

Usually it hinder us from moving in the life direction that we really want. Our dominant thoughts and feelings are usually negative in nature. Maybe due to the conditioning that has taken over on this planet.

The real power you wield is the conscious ability to change your dominant automatic thinking

By doing so you can ensure your feelings and thoughts are more positive in nature. It will be more aligned with your desires and are therefore creating the life experiences that you want.

This may sound like a tall order but there are many great techniques and tools to accomplish this. One of the best tools to recondition your mind for success is self-hypnosis.
